B-GUARA covers the territory of Sierra y Cañones de Guara Natural Park and its immediate surroundings. This territory is located in the aragonese province of Huesca and includes part of the regions of Somontano de Barbastro, Sobrarbe, Alto Gállego and Hoya de Huesca. The routes are distributed around 16 municipalities participating in the project.
The nearest cities are Huesca, Barbastro, Ainsa, Boltaña and Sabinanigo, all connected with B-GUARA through local roads. A little further south is Zaragoza, the capital city of Aragon, where the largest airport in the area is located.
In the territory of Sierra de Guara are located several small towns of medieval origin connected by a network of beautiful mountain roads with little traffic. These include Arguis, Nocito, Loporzano, Lecina, Bierge, Abiego or Alquézar.
From Basque Country and Navarra B-GUARA is accessed by following A-21 road from Pamplona, then you must take N-240 road to Jaca and finally A-23 road to Sabinanigo, Arguis or Huesca. From France it is possible to reach B-GUARA by crossing the Pyrenees through Col du Somport and Col du Pourtalet. Then you must head towards Sabiñanigo and take A-23 road to Huesca.
From Bielsa, located right in the border between France and Spain, you must take A-138 road to Aínsa or Barbastro. From the east, the most frequently-used access is the Vielha tunnel, connected to B-Guara by N-260 road that goes from Pont de Suert to Sabinanigo.
The access from Cataluña is made through A-22 highway that goes from Lleida to Barbastro and Huesca. The highway is also connected to the local roads that will take you to B-GUARA.
The access from Zaragoza and the rest of the country is made through A-23 highway that goes from Zaragoza to Huesca. The highway continues towards the north side of Guara (Arguis) but is also connected to N-240 and A-22 roads that heading east will bring you the south face of Guara and the region of Somontano de Barbastro.
The nearest airport is Zaragoza located 90 km south. The main operating companies are Ryanair, Air Europa, Iberia, Volotea (Baleares) and Vueling (Balearic and Canary Islands), although they offer a limited numer of flights.
The nearby airports of Barcelona (250 km) and Reus (180 km) are operated by most airlines.
The city of Huesca is well-connected to other major Spanish cities like Zaragoza or Madrid through AVE (Spanish High Speed Train) and TALGO trains. A local rail network connecting Huesca to other nearby cities doesn’t exist
Huesca and Barbastro are well connected by bus to other main cities in northern Spain (Zaragoza, Madrid, Pamplona, Jaca, Lleida, Barcelona). Operating companies are Alosa (www.alosa.es) and Alsa (www.alsa.es).
There is also a local bus service in the region of Hoya de Huesca including one or two buses a day to Nueno, Arguis and Aguas (www.alosa.es). In the region of Somontano de Barbastro daily buses connect Barbastro to other cities like Alquézar and Bierge.
In general terms, public transport is very limited in the mountain areas of Prepirineo, being nonexistent in north side areas.
