Restaurants
In 2018, the Somontano region was designated a Territory of Gastronomic Interest of Aragón, a recognition that highlights the importance of its agri-food production, the richness of its food culture, the variety of its sector businesses, and a dynamic, specialised restaurant scene that is refreshed by a packed calendar of events throughout the year.
Whether you’re looking to refuel after a day of pedalling or you want to celebrate the end of a route, the region offers options for every taste, from market-fresh cooking to more elaborate proposals that showcase local produce.
Shopping
Guara is one of those places where it’s hard to leave empty-handed. If you want to take a piece of the area with you, these are the products that shouldn’t be missing from your backpack:
- Somontano PDO extra virgin olive oil, with the native varieties Negral, Verdeña and Alquezrana.
- Artisan goat and sheep cheeses, ideal with local jams.
- Traditional cured meats and charcuterie: longaniza, chireta, torteta, marinated salmorejo and ternasco.
- Native wild trout from the mountain rivers.
- Artisan pastries: guirlache, pumpkin pastillo, mostillo, caramelised almonds and Alquézar dobladillo.
- Somontano PDO wines, with over 100 labels across the region’s 32 wineries.
Wine Route
The Somontano Wine Route is one of the most complete experiences you can combine with your MTB days in Guara. Historic wineries and family-run bodegas, striking architecture, and vineyard landscapes that change with the seasons. All different, all with something to tell.
The recommendation is always the same: visit more than one, book in advance, and check the opening times that best fit your schedule. Each winery is a world of its own and deserves time to discover it slowly, at just the right pace — the same pace Guara teaches you on the bike.
