What is the 200 km Sierra de Guara Brevet
A new BREVET route for the Club’s 2021 season: this route, which is more challenging and demanding to complete, yet offers great appeal and beauty, takes place around the Sierra y Cañones de Guara Natural Park.
Given the difficulty of the event, over 200 km and 3,000 meters of accumulated elevation gain, it is strongly recommended that all participants bring everything necessary to complete it successfully.
Thus, the energy aspect—food—and hydration are very important, as during the route there may be long stretches where there are no places to replenish food, so this aspect must be well controlled. –Recommended gearing: 32/34×34 cassette
200 km Brevet Route Through Sierra de Guara
We set off from Huesca along the N-240 to the roundabout at the junction of Liesa and Ibieca, leaving behind Sietamo, after these towns, via the road. HU-V-3311, we arrive at Aguas, and continue along the A-1227 until Panzano, 34.6 km, where at the Camping-Guara in Panzano, (coffee, drinks, sandwiches, lunch,) next to the road, we will carry out the first checkpoint on the route.
We continue along this road until Bierge and along the A-1230, passing through Alberuela in Laliena, we will arrive at the second checkpoint on the route, Adahuesca, km: 60.8 at shop Las Abuelas de Sevil, at junction of Ctra, (sandwiches, energy bars, drinks.)
Leaving Adahuesca via the A-1229, we’ll take the junction leading downhill towards the village of Colungo on the A-2205. After the San Caprasio and Eripol passes, and having passed the junction for Lecina and the villages of Barcabo and Almazorre, we arrive at the Arcusa checkpoint, km 101.4, the third on the route; refreshments are available at the Hotel Tierra Buxo (drinks, coffee, breakfast and lunch).
Now would be the time to eat a good meal and stock up on supplies properly to successfully complete the second half of the route, as the toughest sections of the route – if that’s even possible – are still to come. For those wishing to visit the Lecina holm oak, take the signposted turn-off to this village shortly after passing the first hill, San Caprasio. A monument to nature in its purest form, it has been declared a ‘Tree of Spain’ and a ‘Tree of Europe 2021’.
After the Arcusa checkpoint, retrace your steps along the route (approx. 2.6 km) until you reach the junction leading towards Las Bellostas; the first villages are Paules de Sarsa, Sarsa de Surta and Las Bellostas. After Las Bellostas and past El Pueyo de Morcat and El Pueyo, take the junction on the left leading to the A-1604 road, and follow it to the top of the Serrablo Pass at km 129.00. Having left the summit of the pass behind, our next checkpoint is in the village of Laguarta at km 133.8, at the Laguarta Casa El Señor rural guesthouse and bar. (meals, sandwiches, drinks, portions)
We begin the descent from the pass, passing through Molino de Escartin, until we reach the junction at Lasaosa, where we’ll turn off towards Nocito, where the 4th checkpoint is located. Before that, we pass the top of the Collado Bail pass on a tough uphill stretch; at the summit, near the Ibirque Dolmen, and once we start the descent, take care… it’s a very dangerous descent, so proceed with caution… In Nocito at km 162.9, checkpoint at Asador O’Tozal Casa Villacampa and the Casa Rural Ortas bar (drinks, sandwiches, tapas and set menus) –Now deep in the Nocito valley, Pico Gaura (2,077 metres), beautiful views of the north face of Pico Guara and stunning vistas.
Pure nature, pure beauty. –We set off from Nocito, retracing the approach section (approx. 1 km) until we reach the tarmac track heading towards the village of Belsué, with a steep climb to the summit at Plan de Senarta, followed by a descent with sharp and dangerous 180-degree bends —where caution is essential—and after passing the reservoir, the start of the final, gruelling 5 km climb to the Alto de la Manzaneda, leaving the village of Belsué behind. –From here, at the tunnel entrance, a gentle descent to the end of the route in Huesca, leaving behind the stretch through Argüís and its reservoir.
Before that, a stop for the final checkpoint along the route, ARGUIS Km: 188.8, at Bar La Foz, next to the road. After the checkpoint, a dangerous descent through the unlit tunnels towards Nueno, passing through Igries and Yequeda. We finish at the ATO bar, km 213.7, in Huesca, the starting point of this exciting, demanding and gruelling Brevet.

The checks are mandatory, stamp with a rubber stamp using ink on the relevant checkpoint and record the time of passage at the moment when the inspection is carried out. Many thanks for your cooperation.
