Cycling events in the Sierra de Guara. The Sierra de Guara, with its thousands of kilometres of trails perfect for cycling, is the ideal setting for great feats. Most of these adventures remain private or, at most, become part of the photo albums and social media feeds of those who explore this region on two wheels. But there are occasions when these adventures transcend the personal and take place within the framework of superbly organised events in the BGuara region. In this space, where we so often talk of solitary paths and trails, today I invite you to check your diary and save the date to take part in one of the major cycling events held here in Guara.
CYCLING TOURISM, COMPETITION AND LEISURE
Gravel bikes have sparked a real revolution in the world of cycling. Perhaps not quite on the same scale as the electrification of bikes – certainly not – but we are convinced that this type of bike will eventually become the norm on well-maintained trails, thanks to its versatility, as it allows you to ride comfortably on tarmac whilst also venturing off the main roads. And here, if there’s one thing we know about, it’s trails.
Border Bash is a gravel cycling event that has been taking place in Central Europe for the past five years and which, this April, made the leap to none other than Guara. Attracted by our ancient history, our sunshine, our magnificent landscapes and trails that are perfect for gravel cycling, the ‘Border Bash AragĂ³n Gravel Camp. The Vulture Trail.
Using the Cañones de Guara campsite as a base, Formiga organised a three-day cycling event covering 240 kilometres with a total elevation gain of 3,916 metres. This isn’t a race but a series of cycling events tailored to each participant’s ability and enthusiasm, with the option to choose the full three-day programme or just a single day. And it’s not just about the cycling adventure; it’s about spending 72 hours with people who share your passion, discovering landscapes and trails that will leave you with unforgettable memories.

THE YOUNG CLASSIC HU108.
There are events that have only been around for a short while but which, thanks to hard work and dedication, have become indispensable. The HU 108 began as an adventure in 2018 and, despite the pandemic, it feels as though it has been taking place for ages. The HU 108 is a mountain bike race with two distances: the Medio Fondo, covering 65 kilometres, and the Gran Fondo, which gives the event its name, covering 108 kilometres.
Starting in the town of Huesca, the most spectacular section of the route lies in the westernmost part of the Sierra y los Cañones de Guara Natural Park, passing through Nueno and SabayĂ©s; the longest route extends all the way up to Santolarieta and the Salto de RoldĂ¡n. This year it takes place on 20 May and if you’d like to find out more about the 108, simply click here.

TOP-LEVEL COMPETITION
Aspiring cycling professionals know full well what Guara has to offer. The Challenge B-Guara is a two-day race which, last year, served as the Aragon Elite and Under-23 Road Long-Distance Championship, and which is now in its third year. On 3 June, the first day will kick off with the B-Guara Reino de los Mayos Trophy, and on 4 June, the second stage will take place right here in our region with the B-Guara Zona Zero Trophy. A great opportunity to see the future champions of Aragon, a land of cyclists. You can find all the information about the B-Guara Challenge on the Club Ciclista Oscense website.
ULTRA-LONG-DISTANCE RUNNING IS ALL THE RAGE
Some people enjoy leisurely Sunday rides, others get their adrenaline pumping on hair-raising descents, some use cycling to keep fit, and others would happily spend every waking moment on their bikes. This last group is a cycling tribe that has continued to grow in recent years. This craze, which began in France, reaches its peak in the Paris-Brest-Paris, a 1,200-kilometre cycle tour in which not just anyone can take part; you have to earn your place. How? You might ask. Well, by completing a series of challenges starting at 200 kilometres and extending up to 600, known as Brevets, but which are anything but brief.
These are the upcoming brevets that will pass through the Sierra de Guara:

We know a lot about this type of event here. In 2021, the Club Ciclista Oscense organised its 200-kilometre brevet, which took participants around the Guara Natural Park.
Here are the links – if not to encourage you to take part (which is something everyone should do), then perhaps to give you some ideas about the loops and endless trails you can enjoy here.
