Interview with Pedal Store

Pedal Store: New Bikes

Who are the people running the shop?

We are Gustavo and VĂctor.

How long have you been working together?

It was more than five years ago.

In each case, what was the transition like from your previous job to this one?

It’s very easy, as it’s our passion.

How many people work in the shop?

We are currently a team of seven people.

Do you go cycling in the Sierra de Guara?

Yes, of course, we love it.

Is there a particular route, trail or spot that you like best? Why would you recommend it?

There are so many routes we like in our area that, to be honest, we wouldn’t know which one to choose.

What do you think of initiatives like Bguara to revitalise the region?

Initiatives like these are very beneficial for our region; they help to raise the profile of the area and boost local activity.

How is your sector doing at the moment? Have the stock issues with bicycles and components been resolved? How long will it take?

It’s a tricky situation; there’s a shortage of components and problems with transport. In our case, as we’ve planned ahead, we have ample stock to see us through the coming season. It’s unclear how long it will take for the market to return to how it was before the pandemic – perhaps two or three years.

Is the demand for electric bikes still growing? What volume of electric bikes is sold compared to others?

Yes, we’re selling more and more e-bikes, but we always sell more standard bikes than electric ones.

What’s new in the 2022 range of road and mountain bikes that everyone wants to get their hands on?

Electronic switches and potentiometers.

First came 29-inch wheels and dropper posts on mountain bikes, then disc brakes on road bikes – what do you think will be the next ‘revolution’ in bike components?

Bikes are increasingly being fitted with cassettes offering a wider range of gears, and developments in all aspects of electronics will be crucial.

What would you recommend to a cycling enthusiast who’s thinking of treating themselves? A tech gadget? A lightweight component? Why?

Do pop into our shop; we’ll be happy to advise you on the best option for you. If you’re looking for a gadget, power meters are proving very popular, and if you want a lightweight bike, you might want to invest in a good frame, as weight is a key factor when it comes to cycling.

Finally, what advice would you give to someone who wants to improve their cycling performance?

A biomechanical study.

Anything else to add?

That’s all. Thank you very much. Just a reminder that we’re a multidisciplinary team; we’re here to help all cycling enthusiasts and would be delighted to welcome you to our premises.
